The International schools of The Hague and the European School The Hague are located in the international zone of The Netherlands. The Hague is a cosmopolitan city with a large expat population and as such offers excellent housing, health and transport facilities. The Hague is a beautiful city located behind the sand dunes and adjacent to miles of clean and attractive beaches. It is the seat of Dutch Government and home to the Royal Family. The Hague has a beautiful historic city centre with numerous canals and an excellent public transport system. Our schools Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar and Rijnlands Lyceum Oegstgeest have an international department. The cities of Wassenaar and Oegstgeest are very well known with expats and are both a safe, friendly and relaxing places to live. Many staff cycle to our schools and, throughout The Netherlands, there are extensive cycling routes to explore.

Are you an experienced teacher, holding good academic and teaching qualifications and you have excellent verbal and written communication skills? We welcome you to one of our international schools!

Relocation

At the Rijnlands Lyceum Foundation, we will guide you step by step through all the practical things you need to arrange before you relocate to the Netherlands. We have a relocation information package ready for you and an instruction video explaining the relocation process in 3 steps. Please check our video here:

Quote from one of our new staffmembers: "the assistance and support I received from Human Resources at Rijnlands has been exemplary. Having worked at various international schools throughout my career, I understand the importance of feeling relaxed at the start of a new school year in a different country. HR were incredibly proactive in my relocation and continue to support me to this day".

Teaching in the Netherlands

In The Netherlands the teaching profession is regulated. This means that only those in the possession of teaching qualifications are allowed to practice the profession. Teachers who have obtained their diplomas and certificates abroad must always have their foreign teaching qualifications recognized by Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs (DUO, part of the Dutch Ministry of Education). DUO is authorized to provide you with a Dutch recognized teaching certificate. Please note, that it is very important that you have a teaching qualification in your home country as this is the starting point for DUO.

During your onboarding, HR will assist you with the application for the Dutch teaching certificate. More information can be found on the website of DUO.

Certificate of good conduct (VOG)

Aligned with the recommendations of the International Task Force on Child Protection, we hold ourselves to a high standard of effective recruiting practices with specific attention to child protection. To this end, all those appointed at one of our schools are required to obtain a Certificate of good conduct (in Dutch: “VOG”).

The decision to issue this certificate lies with the Ministry of Justice (in Dutch: Dienst Justis). Your appointment takes place on the condition that you submit to us an original and valid Certificate of Good Conduct in advance, before your first start date. This procedure will be explained in further detail by your HR advisor. For more information, please read our regulation Certificate of Good Conduct.

30% ruling

International staff can receive a tax exemption for a maximum of 30% of their annual gross salary as a compensation for the extraterritorial costs that international staff incur while living abroad. The 30% ruling applies to staff that have been recruited from abroad and can be received for a maximum period of  5 years. You are eligible for this allowance if you meet a number of conditions.

The decision to grant you the 30% ruling lies with the Dutch Tax Authorities. Subject to the 30% rule, Rijnlands can provide free education at one of our international schools for up to two children. Your HR advisor will inform you about this procedure and will assist you in the application if applicable.
